Big Dog Motorcycles?
Anyone have experience with these bikes? I'm just curious about reliability, comfort, etc. I’m mainly looking at the Mastiff (softail) but considering the Pit Bull (hardtail w/ springer seat) also. Don't want to spend 30K on an unreliable bike. Is there another production custom you feel is better?

Magz, thanks for the input, but I said "production custom" that is what bikes like the Big Dog, American Iron Horse, etc. are called. Just for clarification.
Thanks for everyone's input. I had a feeling this may not be the best route to go which is why I posted the question. It sounds like the opinions are pretty all against the Big Dog. Kendall Johnson is just down the street from me so maybe I'll talk to him instead.

Springer Softail ' 97 short Burnout
4 Harleys, Whats your favorite and why, the Street Glide,the Softail Deluxe or the Softail Springer classic.
Lets not forget the RoadKing Classic also..all 2005 or 2006.
Say what you want but for me it's a stripped down Softail Deluxe...Just me and the bike....I want to ride around on a cruiser not a loaded down pack mule... and I don't want to clean that springer after every ride....

Very much enjoyed this blog! We have 2 all-white sister cats named Springer and Softail who are probably 9 or 10 years old now. They fuss with each other and get on each other's nerves sometimes, but other times they cuddle together sleeping and licking each other in the sweetest way! There is white hair on everything in the house and my husband gets frustrated with all the hair, but we love them dearly.
My daughter rescued them as tiny kittens from abandonment in a box in the Pizza Hut parking lot in Richardson, TX. She asked if we wanted them (knowing I love cats and have had several who've passed away). Of course, I said “yes” but my husband said “no way”, that he was happy not to empty litter boxes anymore. Well, she brought them over anyway at my instruction and put them in the hall bathroom while Bruce was out. By the time I got home from work, I knew Bruce was there and worried about his reaction. I entered the door and didn't see him so I went straight to the hall bath and discovered Bruce on the floor with the 2 kittens in his arms sleeping. It was the cutest sight ever. He looked up at me with the grin of a new parent and that was it…the kittens were staying! And he had named them after his favorite Harley bike!
Springer and Softail are precious to us and we hope they live a long time!

After owning several H-D’s that looked exactly the same as every other one out there (even after spending thousands in custom parts)I made the switch to BDM. Best decision I ever made ZERO problemsafter 5 years of riding. 2700 mile trip to Sturgis in 6 days, noissues, and as comfortable as my old springer softail. There is a reason H-D over the last couple years started putting bigger motors,6 speed trannys, wider rear tires, and LED lights ect. on their bikes. Anyone thinking about buying one, GO FOR IT! Best bang for the buck.

I ran across the same scam on Craigslist in Kansas City with the seller listed as Alicia Mahoney She had a HD Springer Softail for $4200 which I thought it was too good to be true. I inquired and got the following response: “Hi,I am selling this bike because my platoon has been sent back to Afghanistan and don’t want it get old in my backyard. The price is low because I need to sell it before May 09. It has no damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects. It is in immaculate condition, 12,684 miles, meticulously maintained and hasn’t been involved in any accident, VIN# 1HD1BLY164Y046094. I do have the title , clear, under my name.It is still available for sale if interested, price as stated in the ad $4200. The bike is in Fort Richardson, AK, in case it gets sold I will take care of shipping. Let me know if you are interested, email back.Regards !!”I e-mailed her back to ask a second time what year the bike is and here is the next response:“2004. As I’ve told you at this moment I am in Fort Richardson, AK in a military base getting ready for Afghanistan. This mean that I do a special training program and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want.The shipping can’t be a problem because I can do it at no cost for you. You will receive the bike along with all the documents including title, bill of sale, full service records and more .Because it is a large transaction we will complete the deal only using an authorized third party like eBay, using their Business Purchase Protection Program.The payment will be handled by eBay and you will benefit of 5 inspection time period (test drive) and the option to accept or reject the bike on my expense.
