Ironhead Sportster valve tappet adjustment.
I can't fit the primary cover back onto my harley?
I recently replaced the clutch hub on my 1997 Sportster 1200. The primary chain seems way tighter than when I took off the old clutch hub. All the new parts are the same size as the old ones. There's no slack in the chain, so the chain tensioner holds the cover from being pushed all the way on. I don't know why the chain is tighter now than whe I took the parts off. Thanks for your help!

try turning your primary with the rear wheel. put the transmission in high gear(you will have to turn the rear wheel a little between each gear so it will click into the next one) if you've put everything back together right, the primary chain will be tight in 1 position & loose in others. you may have to take the spark plugs out so the motor will turn over easier.
dont turn it with the starter because the starter gear may come out too far. if you cant find a position where the chain has slack it means you've put something back wrong, also make sure the tensioner shoe adjuster is backed all the way off. you can adjust it normaly after the cover is back on.
I would not be skeptical, I am sure it would give you enough offset to run a 250 section tire on a stock FRAME.
A stock SWINGARM is an entirely different story though. The tire would most likely rub if it fit in at all, and you would have all kinds of clearance issues with the brake caliper too.
Although I do think Harley has some CVO bike running 200+ section tires, so the mod might be cheaper than you think…if you think $1000 is cheap.
no, not exactly a stock frame, but one with a swing arm kit installed, but may be purchaced seperately, ALL frames set the engine in the same spot, but must set the front sprocket out to line up with the rear sprocket
What it refers to is if you install a wide tire swingarm on a stock frame, that sprocket will work on stock or aftermarket frame. You can install a wide tire kit on any softail frame, but you must replace the swingarm.
