Is it possible to convert my 2000 Sportster 883 to run on E85?
Will this require me to switch to a fuel injected system before running E85 in it? I've seen the kit by Dabbs engineering, but it is $2000 and I can't find where to purchase it (besides an email address). But I am really looking for a simple conversion or doing it on my own. Thanks.
You can rejet the carb so that instead of delivering a 14:1 air-fuel ratio, it gives you 6.5-7:1 (i.e., jets that will flow about double the volume). Of course you'll be stuck with using E85 and unable to use regular gas. Personally, I wouldn't bother because I think the results will be disappointing.

What size is the width of the front axle on a 2003 883 Sportster?
I need to determine whether a set of chrome front axle caps made for a 3/4 inch front axle will fit on my 2003 883 Sportster.
Try this - take a tape (or better yet, a caliper) and measure the befucked thing.
Go with the Sportster 883 it is an awesome looking bike and there is no comparison to a harley (if thats the look you are into). It is all about personal preference take a test ride on the sportster and if they let you on the rebel and then make the decision but if your a confident rider the sportster will grow with you, so you might want to take a look at the shadow as well. Personally I have ridden on several harleys and a few other bikes and I would say that Harleys are great for a cruiser type bike. On the other hand if you are looking in the sport bike area a Ninja is a nice bike to start on as well.

I just love my V7 I used to have an enfield bullet which i loved but it was too slow so I got a harley sportster 883 instead of the bonneville I was going to buy, I test rode the bonneville It looked good but it has no soul from the engine, I need a v-twin and something that sounds like a motorcycle. My harley has now been sold it was a cool bike but the parts are sooo expensive and I had put too many miles on it, and the V7 I have now is a year old it sounds great on stock exhausts and I dont think its slow, it handles and stops fine and I can cruise at 80 90 mph with a screen fitted or I can potter at 55, its economical it carrys pillions and luggage and its different and beautiful. The sound from the exhaust is just music to my ears and it has soul thats something you dont get from a Honda not thats theres anything wrong with jap bikes I just need something more,My choice of bikes is limited by my height I am 5.4 ft but I think I may have found my perfect motorcycle for me anyway.I shall be fitting a cafe racer fairing in the future. As long as HD puts out “Classic American Engineering” that delivers half the performance at twice the price of the Big Four japanese manufacturers, it will continue to be seen as a Luxury Marque. Despite the recent marketing that shows the Sportster 883 getting high 50's MPG there are too many import options that deliver the same at a lower price with higher quality running gear. Here in San Francisco you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Suzuki SV650. HD dealerships are pretty much vacant. The only activity being in the service department. Alot of people ,like me, don't even have a car in favor of being moto-only. Even though the recent developements at HD has them putting out quality product (rubber mounted sportsters, the Revolution engine) they have a long way to go to beat the perception that they are unreliable, leaky, loud bad boy's machines. Plus the shop rates at DH shops are 30 bucks an hour higher in some places. On par with BMW shop rates, not Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki shops.
I mean even Eric Buell who built a whole new brand and engineering philosophy around the HD sportster motor has turned to Rotax for engines to be competitive with the Japanese.
And with The Victory brand chipping away at their market share, HD has a tough row to hoe. I'm rooting for them though.

If I rode an 883, I'd remove it… I removed the 1200 from mine… it's nobodies business but mine. and if all i could afford was an 883, i'd rather not advertise that its only an 883… though an 883 is still a great entry level bike, just as good as or better than any comparable jappy crap cruiser
