whats the longest springer front end i can put on a harley sportster?


Probably going to depend on where you live.
I know, sounds stupid, yet true.

When you extend the forks a lot, you've gotta increase the rake some to keep the front end out of the sky.
Some places have limits on how much rake is allowed.
As with most vehicle laws, this changes from state to state.

    After 16 years of accident-free riding, I got taken out by a left-turning SUV last winter, and (I’m told) chased the guy on foot for a bit when he didn’t stop immediately. Ended up with a concussion, a broken wrist, and some road burn, and insurance totaled my bike (a Harley Springer). To echo what other commenters have said, I feel I’m a better and safer rider now, and also very lucky to have escaped with such minor injuries. Happily, I’m also back in the saddle as of a few weeks ago. Starting to ride again has helped put the whole episode behind me, so I would recommend doing so as soon as you’re able.

    That was a very nice post, Jude. Thank you for the picture of the motorcycle, I think it's a Harley with the springer front end and the front fender removed. I modified my new power chair by lowering the frame, adding saddlebags, souping up the motor and adding flame decals. You should see me do a wheely at the Wal-Mart while shopping for my Depends. Those barber shops of our youth were strange places, full of odd odors and male bonding. I got the “half-crew” a crew cut in the back and a little longer in the front. While waiting, I could read lurid stories in “True Detctive” or the “Police Gazzette” complete with pictures of women with clothes half ripped off. The bathroom held even more graphic forbidden delights. How these images affected pre-pubescent young male minds only Dr. Phil may be able to explain.

    This was a very interesting article, since I grew up in that era (with no money)! I had a strong desire to ride cross country as well as FAST!!!! I built my Panhead with little, to no regard for safety (No front brake, mechanical rear, no crashbars or front fender, tiny headlight, & mirror, & taillight, & a 22″ extended Harley springer) I`ve since ridden through every state (except Hawaii) at least twice, & almost 600,000 miles on that panhead!!! I`ve gradually added a LOT of safety features to the Pan, though! They have become more important as my “invincibility” wore off! (a lot of you know what I mean) I`VE BEEN ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES TO LIVE THROUGH THAT PERIOD! Ross
