How to Tweak a Harley Sportster Carburetor?
I just recently rebuilt a 1995 Harley Sportster 1200 engine. We replaced the pistons, valves and rings and boared 10 over. I have never tweaked a carburetor before and was looking to see if anyone knew how step by step? Thanks 
the first thing i would do is replace the accelerator pump with the Andrews hi pro version it's $20 from JP cycles..it really helps bottom end power.three screws and about 5-10 minuets to do this..
next is a k&n air cleaner with built in velocity stack..this helps the top end a bunch.
if you need rejeting they screw in from the bottom after removing the float bowl..you need to read up on reading your plugs to know if you need bigger or smaller jets.
the idle mixture screw is sealed from the factory..
(smog law)
you will need to drill out the seal if it has not been done yet.
you will find the idle mixture ajustment screw is under the seal..

Ask $4995 and take $3995. This motor has no value as a dirttracker, but the bike is ok looking. Keep in mind, if it does not run, no matter what you say, you can only sell it for scrap parts.
You will be lucky to get $2000 in non working order.
Better yet, you get a tramp stamp and ride it. Tell woosy boy to clean the dishes while you have fun!
I just love my V7 I used to have an enfield bullet which i loved but it was too slow so I got a harley sportster 883 instead of the bonneville I was going to buy, I test rode the bonneville It looked good but it has no soul from the engine, I need a v-twin and something that sounds like a motorcycle. My harley has now been sold it was a cool bike but the parts are sooo expensive and I had put too many miles on it, and the V7 I have now is a year old it sounds great on stock exhausts and I dont think its slow, it handles and stops fine and I can cruise at 80 90 mph with a screen fitted or I can potter at 55, its economical it carrys pillions and luggage and its different and beautiful. The sound from the exhaust is just music to my ears and it has soul thats something you dont get from a Honda not thats theres anything wrong with jap bikes I just need something more,My choice of bikes is limited by my height I am 5.4 ft but I think I may have found my perfect motorcycle for me anyway.I shall be fitting a cafe racer fairing in the future. Try it you might just like it

Last summer I took my first test ride on a motorcycle to see if I'd even like it. The bug bit and it didn't take long for me to own that bike – an '02 Vulcan 500. For my 6'0, 240 lb frame it's been perfect for me to learn on – not too much power to be dangerous but enough to keep up with Omaha traffic, nimble enough to learn how to perform the basic maneuvers, and the clutch is forgiving enough to learn on. I, too, have had it fall a few times, but all were at a standstill (and one time it was the bike or a bunch of kids in the driveway. no choice there.) For learning it's been a great bike. I have no plans to do interstate riding, however it does fine on the larger roads in Omaha….West Maple and Dodge. I look forward to graduating to the next level – somewhere around a 900 cc, but for now this is a great bike to work out my "learning bugs" on.

Maybe the company chose not to add "883" on the bike because is took away from the appearance.
Remember, the folks at Harley-Davidson are marketing geniuses. Marketing department probable said, "No 883 logo on the Sportster."
I would suggest contacting Harley-Davidson and asking them your question. I bet they would be happy to provide an answer.
Buy the HD. Why?
And this is a personal one, it is made in the USA!!!!!
1) No valve adjustment! Call the dealer and find out how much the valve clearance/adjustment cost on the Honda.
2) Cast wheels vs Honda spokes. Trying to fix a flat on a spoked wheel means inner tube and wheel removal. The HD you can just plug in and go.
3) Fuel Injection on the HD versus a carburator on the Honda.
4) Belt Drives on HD's nowadays can seem to last forever. Yes the Honda has the ultimate maint free drive type, a shaft drive, but belt drive IS more efficient than shaft drive (i.e. transfers power from engine to rear wheel more efficiently).
5) Quality is about even. Used to be that HDs used to be of crappy quality. Not anymore. Like Ford rising in the quality department to match Toyota and Honda as per the lastest surveys, so has HD versus the Japanese.
6) Millions of ways to customize and add HP to your Harley, including the kits to upgrade it to a 1200 size engine.
7) More torque. For a big guy like you it means it is easier to move you.
Make sure you get the proper fit in the HD since it will be a tad small on your frame. Take a higher seat and/or a kit to move the footpegs forward. Just my .02 cents.
they're probably just being cheap. is it really that noticably that its not there.
