Exhaust performance: Harley Road King?
I want to deepen the sound at idle and louden the sound at excelleration. I don't care about having my king "bark" or louden it to obnoxious...but I do want it louder and a deeper rummble than stock.
Keep 2 into 1 or have a true dual with Rinehart exhaust? Which will increase performance and create a deeper sound?
Although this review is for Sportsters, it will give you an idea of what you're looking into. Personally, I run Vance & Hines Big Shots staggered on a FLSTF with 95" big bore kit without baffles and I find them plenty loud and the power curve is good. In fact, I'm thinking of putting the baffles back in to cut down the sound and increase back pressure for performance.
I have run Cycle Shacks in the past and for the money I don't think they can be beat for performance and sound at that price range. They definately are loud. I am not 100% sure, but I think Cycle Shack makes the Screamin' Eagle pipes for HD. I would definately go for a 2 into 2 setup. But, I like low end rpm torque more than higher end rpm torque. Samson Groundpounders Exhaust Harley
I am purchasing a 2008 Softail Custom Harley and was wondering what a good, loud exhaust would be.?
I want nothing ear shattering loud, but it have a nice low rumble without jeopardizing it's performance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Screaming eagle by Harley sound good, vance and hines also. I run pythons. But, if you change the pipes, you also have to change to a high volume air intake like the SE stage 1 kit. Then, you have to change the air fuel mix. because the pipes and air kit make the bike run extra lean which causes heat, and a loss of HP and performance too. You can change it a couple of ways, you can add a HD race tuner which is expensive, and requires time on the DYNO to get it set right, or, if you go with Vance and Hines pipes, you can add their Fuel pak control to your bike. It runs under $300.00 and you can go to there webb site and get the correct codes for you bike and pipes, then punch in the codes yourself and ride off.

really nice looking bike. the pipes seem kind of like a trowback to a more classic stye of harley exhaust. the matte black color is great, especially with the black pipes.

Northern_Lynn- Here’s a little experiment for you: have one of your chopper friends redline his Harley (with the typical illegal Harley exhaust system out side of a football stadium. Place yourself equidistant from the illegal Harley and the several thousand football fans. Which do you think will be louder? And something to consider while your at it: those several THOUSAND football fans are engaged in a legal activity that will end at a civilized hour. Compare that to a lone Harley leaving neighborhood bar at 2:00AM trying to prove that he or she really isn’t a loser. Everyone of those homes he or she rides past as he or she twists the throttle has their live disrupted by the 100+dbs coming out of his illegal exhaust system. That noise isn’t making him any safer. It’s annoying people and stacking the deck against the faux-barbarians and their silly “lifestyle”. It noise pollution any way you look at it. Operative word: ILLEGAL. On a very simple level, check out the municipal code pertaing to disturbing the peace. No where does it say “except for losers on modified Harleys”.
