Harley Davidson Exhaust?

Just bought a 2008 HD 1200 sportster. I don't care for the stock exhaust and love the "Screaming Eagle II" that some of the neighbors run. However, they don't make them any longer. Does anyone know of something sounding close to these. I am told the new "Screaming Eagle I" does not even compare. The "Python" is way too loud.
E-bay has several Screaming Eagle II for "Softtail". Does anyone know if these will work on my 2008 1200 Sportster. Called the dealer and they can't seem to answer even when I provide the part number.

Yeah thanks to the EPA Harley quietened down their exhaust. A good slip-on that I have had good luck with at work are the Vance & Hines Straightshots HS Slip-ons. They are only $280 and have a great sound to them and have great quality. They are going to be similar to the Python (might as well be the same exhaust), just take care cruising in your neighborhood in the late/early hours and you should be fine. Most people have been ok changing out these pipes without doing any tuning to the motorcycle (enough tuning built in to the new fuel injection to handle it), but a Hi Flow Air Cleaner and some form of Tuning to rich-en up the bike will work wonders for that engine.

I do prefer the Thunderheader 2-1, but not everyone likes the look of them.

  • I don't know were you live, but if there is a State inspection of any kind then you can't pass without the Cat. As far as HI FLOW VS Stock You will have to find the CFM rating of the cats to see how many cubic feet per min of air flow they have and compare them to see if there is any benefit to spending the extra money to get the HI FLOW Cat

Damn I wish mine was stick.. /:

  • u should know everything about ur car before u turbo it. if u dont even know what vtec or intake is then u have a long way to go before u can even start doing anything to ur car. my advice is for u to join a honda forum and search everything u want to know and ask around. if u want to turbo ur car u should have good knowledge of ur engine and car. there is a lot to do before u turbo ur car, like proper maintenance, tune up, new exhaust system (if u know what that is).
    good luck dude.

  • I owned a Scorched Yellow 675 for 2 years. I enjoyed the bike on the street and on the race track. I was Increadibly happy with the bike and had no pending plans to sell it….. and then I seen the plans for the Pearl white 848. 1 week later I decided to place my deposit for the 848 but waited to sell the 675. The 848 was 5 months from delivery and I had not completely decided I would part with my 675. Finances stepped in, the 848 was 1 week away from delivery…. I had 4 interested buyers for the 675 (I had never offerred the bike for sale…. people caught wind I MIGHT be selling it and the offers poured in).

It was hard parting with the exclusivity of the 675. Its low end torque and beautiful, unique styling still gets me to this day. The local service however, was a tough issue to deal with. I will not get into the details, but it was definitely less than par.

The 848 on the other hand…. amazing. Family feel with the dealership I bought from, always there for any questions I have… and they even host semi monthly track nights.

    comparisons…. comfort: 675 8/10 848 7/10. (seat hard on both bikes. I am 6'2″)
acceleration: 848 outpulls the 675. Torque difference is quite noticable.
Handling: 675 is more nimble and more flickable. 848 does feel more sturdy.
track: 675 is easier to ride due to the high revs. 848 turns quicker laptimes due to long straights at my local track.
Brakes: 848 trumps the 675 big time.
Stock exhaust: 675 is awesome after 6000 rpms. anything less and people dont really know your there. 848….. come on… its a twin! turns heads before you reach the spot.
Street: both bikes are awesome. visually they both turn heads. But they look a little longer at the pearl white 848.

overall. Both are AWESOME MACHINES. If I could… I would own both. However The 848 pulls harder, stops faster, and service is much better with the ducati.

Whicher way you go… keep the shiny side up.

    Terence.

  • dear polyphony, putting a performance catalytic converter on a 64 gto wont improve its performance. putting a computer chip on a 64 gto that doesnt have a computer wont improve its performance. titanium exhaust doesnt have to be routed any differently than stock exhaust pipes. we dont need a million variants of skylines. why do all those japanese cars have 276hp? and ive never seen an 80s japanese car with a paint finish that always looks wet. some cars hp numbers vary from the manufacturers, usually not in my favor. the description for the 53 corvette is clearly for another car. you refer to the delorean as a dmV instead of dmC. but thanks for fixing the car i just banged up around the track.

  • Forget just the tip. You'll like a whole catback instead.

  • without back pressure the dump valve is "fluttering" common problem when tuning turbos as the resonance sends a sort of ripple back through the system, you will have to adjust the wastegate to cope with the harmonic frequency that is causing it, I remember racing turbos had a "damped " wastegate/dump valve to stop the fluttering

great sound. getcha some chrome tips put on there and it'll look great to. only bout 20 bucks for a set.

No here has mentioned adding a high voltage ignition coil. Perhaps one of the cheapest bolt on horsepower you can ever do. Other than a good carb then headers. Since its a 1975 adding the racing coil can improve performance. fuel efficiency as well as having the engine breath better due to leaner and cleaner burns.
