Why we, Americans think that we are the best nation in the world????

OK, so I have a lot of friends from all around the world and by hanging out with them and learning something new about their cultures I started asking myself this question: why we Americans consider ourselves the best, the funniest and bla-bla-bla nation. For example I have a friend from post Soviet terrain and she told me a lot about their and our history too...For example, Harley-Davidson Motorcycles-a true symbol of US was founded by two Soviet emigrants, helicopter was also created by a Ukrainian engineer, we went to the moon only because the rocket that took us there was designed by German Nazi scientist Erich Von Braun, captured during WW2. These are some things that we are proud of, but at the same time they are essentially not ours. And what about a lot of jerks that hate emigrants from Mexico, China, etc. The US started as a country of emigrants, don't you think we should be more tolerable to those people?! Thanks

You make a couple of good points.I love America and what it stands for here and in the world. Other folks have immigrated here because of what they knew that they'd find. We have education, freedom, great credit systems, beautiful countryside, big and fascinating cities and a citizenry that is marvelous. Those inventors you mentioned, founded/established their businesses and reputations in this country because we are free to do pretty much what we want. And not all important folks are white Americans - there are heroes and geniuses here from all nationalities. We should do the best we can to assist immigrants, and others having deep problems, with what it takes to become one of us. Excellent question!
