harley davidson collectibles 1979 80 ci Shovelhead Harley Davidson question.?
How collectible is this bike?
I may have the opportunity to buy one, but I want to buy a Harley that has some collectors value in the future.
What's a fair price for this. Let's say that the bike is in good condition except that the motor and trans needs to be rebuilt.
It is not a collectible model. Probably the only really collectible model of the era is the XLCR, which sold poorly at the time. I believe about 3,000 were made, and a nice one is around $10,000 and up.
It is worth noting that at the time (during AMF ownership) company morale was at an all-time low, and so was quality control. H/D was forced to spend an average of $1,000 on each bike AFTER it came off the assembly line i order to make it good enough to leave the factory. Some were even found to be missing the pistons at the end of the assembly line.
