How easy would the transition be from a Bonneville to a Harley Dyna Low Rider?

No that I want to get rid of my Bonnie, just planning a short road trip in California (about 4-5 days). I thought a Sporster (closer as a bike to the Bonneville I guess) would be tiring over several days on highway.
Yes, I meant I just want to rent a Harley in the US for 4-5 days. I'm keeping my Bonnie here (UK), I love her too much :)

If you are used to riding a Bonneville, an HD Sportster is close to that, but the DYNA LOW RIDER is WAY different. I think you would be very happy on it, especially if you are going to spend 4 or 5 days on it. The bike has a rubber mounted engine that is very smooth on the road, and has all the power and torque you need to make it a comfortable ride without having to constantly keep it in the higher rpm's to make it up hills and pass a truck or whatever.
Try one out, I'll bet you'll like it.

I was thinking a Dyna or a Low Rider.

It is a sporster, look's like the fork's are raked out a bit, fat bob tank's, forward control's,custom rim's, lowered, softail rear fender.
(good looking sporty)

what i did to find the length for my cables was to run a piece of flexible wire along the route that the cable took with the new handlebars on. then i measured the length of that wire and that's the length cable you need. you can do that with clutch, throttle tach, speedo, and even brake [if you have the old drum setup].

it's definitely possible to route the wires through the bars, it will take patience and remembering what wires go where in the case that you make your own loom and don't have the same coloured wires as what's on the bike.

  • all is possible man…. that eight inches higher like you going to be standing up to ride or what id go and order cables a couple inches longer than your rise if not more and as for the wires just cut and rewire and yes you can run tru the bars depend on the kind some are hole cut just for it

  • Barnett makes nice braided stainless steel cables, HD has standard ones in extended lengths. You also need a longer brake line. You can get extended wiring harnesses too, so everything stays color coded correctely. I don't know what year your bike is, but newer Harley's have internal wiring in the bars. The biggest hassle is cutting and fitting the wires at different spots so you don't end up with a big knot of wires in one spot that won't fit into the bars.
