What image does Buell Motorcycles need to project to sell more bikes?
I think the clever engineering/race bike image is a bust.
The engineering was inspired by bikes from 50+ years ago (like the Vincent Lightning) and doesn't flow through the entire design (nothing fancy about the fairings, seats, fenders, storage or anything else). I also feel there is a limited market for "racing" bikes with V-twin motors. Harley-Davidson does much better selling community, touring and freedom. Those are all more appealing to me than BIG SPEED on a public road.
So what can Buell sell as an image, to get more people interested in their bikes?
==> Small group rides?
==> Friendship?
==> Commuting?
==> Weekend rides?
==> Track days?
==> Sport touring?
==> "The Pace" (fast corners, easy straight)?
==> Exotic vacations?
==> Safety?
==> Completely developed bikes that fit the real world?
What do you think will work to catch the public imagination better than racing twins and exotic engineering?
i'm not sure, i think people need to know they exist and are a good bike. they also need to get their prices competitive. many people don't even know they exist though.-

2007 Harley-Davidson FLHX Touring Street Glide Custom
Tourette De France - Channel 4 TV?
There was a recent documentary on Channel 4 with Keith Alan and John Davidson. It featured scottish children suffering with tourettes taking a tour to Tourette in France.

1st Q 2008 motorcycle sales were down 10.9%, 173,922 from 195,092 compaired to the 1st Q of 2007.
Steet bike sales were down 11.2%
Dual Sports sales were UP 7.5%
Off Road bikes down 17.1%
Scooter sales are way UP 23.6%
In the U.S. market Honda sales the most bikes with HD coming in 2nd, then followed by Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki.
The Victory is almost dead last cause they produce so few bikes
HD ONLY sales are down 33.1% for the 1st Q of 2008 compaired to last year
the only bikes that are selling are the scooters and the small 250 to 500cc dual sport and sport bikes
also, the Japanese have lowered their prodction and are making 30% less bikes as of May 2008
so much for the vision of being a great American bike, HarleyDavidson is the ONLY way to go. old farts like me saw the MoCo in its infancy. the Recall may be new grounds to keep looking up to HarleyDavidson. it will take over 100 years to prove that they are worth their mettle. i've been told they use recycled toyotas for the frames of victories. no wonder!!

I hope I will not bother with this story. Because of my handicap (I am deaf-mute) internet is the only place where I can try to sell the bike. I hope I will be able to answer all the questions you might have by email as any other type of communication will be impossible. Unfortunately my son passed away in Kandahar last year. Now as I have no family left, the bike will be my gift, my gift in the memory of my son…Money is not a problem! All I want is to find the right person who will love and take care of this bike. The price I am after is $2,600. You may wonder why I ask this small amount for this bike. Well…the truth is that I decided to do this only as form of protest. This is exactly what I have received as compensation after my son died serving his country. Nothing more, nothing less!!! This bike was a present for my son, I have the title still registered under my name paid in full ready to be signed over. I am located in Atlanta,GA and the bike is at the shipping company,ready to be shipped at your place. I will pay $200 when I will start the shipping and you will pay $60 when you get the bike delivered to your address. I chose eBay as our third party because they offer protection both of us, they save me lot of time, they handle all the paperwork and collection of selling price, and will hold the payment until you decide to keep the bike. To begin the transaction I'll need your full name and full shipping address. The selling plan is very easy and safe. First eBay will send you the invoice via e-mail, then you have to make the payment. Right after eBay will check the payment as available, they will confirm me and I can ship the bike to your address. You will have 5 days to inspect the bike, if you like it we have a deal. The lawyer and the notary from eBay will take care of all needed papers.
