Will I Damage my New System if I turn up the settings?
I just got a brand new memphis system on april 20th
it has two PR 12's powered by a 500x1 RMS Watt Memphis amp
I also got 4 new memphis door speakers powered by a second amp...
Question: I had it installed by a professional....currently the radio is set to -4 on lows, loud is off, and bass is on 0...if I turn up my lows and bass and loud to max will my new subs handle it EVER? Or will they get damaged? At the moment it delivers great quality bass but because I restricted it with -4 and the like it isnt powerful enough to be heard too far down the road...I really want to have king kong in my trunk lol...
Also...
I understand that there is a break-in period of typically 2 weeks but does that pertain to memphis are they good enough to handle regular usage?
subs are running on 1 ohm I believe and are bridged...not 100% on the bridged part...
remember this. distortion is your enemy. there is a point where the excursion (travel) of the subwoofers and door speakers will reach a limit. there is also a point where the amplifier will reach a limit and rather than have output in a clean sine wave, the sound will be in a square wave. quick lesson. speakers oscillate in two directions to produce sound. this is caused by changes in positive and negative polarity. the speed at which this changes is the frequency of the sound. this output is in AC volts (alternating current). when the amp is sending or reproducing a distorted signal, the output voltage is DC. this causes premature failure of a voice coil on any size speaker.
the LOUD feature is basically a boost in bass & treble. turning up the BASS setting on the radio will add bass to ALL speakers, subs & doors alike. if he has set the system up properly, you might be able to take that up one or two notches. if your head unit has a subwoofer control, feel free to play with that but remember, if it sounds bad, it is bad (bad for the speaker). i would set most audio systems up to a level where the user couldn't hurt them without physically changing settings on the amp. we can't assume the same from your installer.

Synthetic or regular oil on my Road King's 1,000 mile (and thereafter) oil change?
Which is better, I heard the synthetic runs a cooler engine, but it is too "slick" and could damage the engine...sounds like bs to me... but that's why I'm asking.
if u can afford the price of the sythetic, go for it. it wont hurt the engine, it will handle high heat better than dino oil, and u could extend the oil change intervals; some say up to 4 or 5000, but myself and my scoot, i'd still change it at no more than 3000 miles max with syth, 2500 miles with dino.
ignore those who obviously have no clue to what their talking about or even ride. if ur still unconvinced, why not hobknob with the guys at hcg about this. register and have fun. http://www.harleychatgroup.com
